Stylish yoga clothing for women – Why buy from independent labels?

“…I was surrounded by boxes, unpacking my first range of yoga clothes for women…from design through to production, I admit, I loved every minute.” Natalie Farrell founder of Yummy Yoga Girl

Just another yoga wear brand? Or is it an eduction project?

Tuesday 12th September 2017, one of my dreams came true. I was surrounded by boxes, unpacking my first range of yoga clothes for women. I was excited because this was the culmination of a new adventure for me, where I had to learn every element of the process, from design through to production and, I admit, I loved every minute of it.

I had always had a very clear vision of what I wanted my clothes to represent and feel like, but the first step in making this collection a reality was possibly the hardest part. That is, until a chance meeting in a coffee shop one snowy day last winter, where I met Sue Mee Maudsley, a fashion designer and fellow yogi.

As we talked, ideas flowed and, at that moment, I knew my dream was going to become a reality and that I had found someone who was going to work with me to build a brand to educate people on the importance of slow fashion and dressing the skin for comfort.

Yoga Clothes – Fashion brands with a conscious.

I wanted my clothes to reflect all the many aspects of innovative and creative individuals. For me, yoga is about self-realization and celebrating your inner self and beauty. So, I deliberately chose uplifting and inspiring colours and patterns which could represent our inner joyful spirit.

“I was determined to choose good quality fabrics, ones which would last, which also feel fabulous to wear and fit with my personal values too.”

Eco Friendly Yoga Clothes

Of course, yoga is about building core strength and flexibility, so the clothes needed to stand up to the rigours of regular workouts and washing, but I was determined to choose good quality fabrics, ones which would last, which also felt fabulous to wear and fit with my personal values too. I searched for beautiful blends of fabrics that were sustainable, eco-friendly, washable and infinitely wearable.

Slow Fashion – And why it matters to us.

All the clothes can be washed on a low cycle, ie 30 or 40 degrees (delicate wash) and then hung up to dry. They dry overnight, so are ready to be worn again the next day. They are also ideal for packing, as the leggings do not crease and the tops roll easily, especially the Ella.

But all this was still not enough for me, as I wanted the yoga clothes to be stylish, to both look and feel so good that they could be dressed up with a pair of heels, a fabulous jacket, a statement necklace and look stunning enough to be worn outside of the studio, for example, when meeting friends for drinks.

“It was not my intention to mass produce items, rather to produce a limited collection each time which supports the slow fashion movement.”

I can say that this collection has been created with 100% passion and care, from the initial idea, through design to production. These clothes are a realization of a part of me.

All of the items are named after places I have visited in the world; Ella (Sri Lanka), Barbara (Santa Barbara, where I trained to be a yoga teacher in 2015), Ronda (Spain),Kandi (actually, Kandy in Sri Lanka) and Siena (Italy). This will continue to be a theme as the collection grows, with Buda (Budapest) coming in December.

It is not my intention to mass produce items, rather to produce a limited collection each time. And support the slow fashion movement to offer our consumers good quality product and educate them on the importance of mass production. Each new piece will coordinate with other items in the collections. My intent is to continue to design and produce beautiful, different and unique items that represent and celebrate your individuality, your creativity and, above all, make you smile, be happy and feel amazing.
